The Pittsburgh Penguins will turn to Matt Murray as the starting goaltender for Game 1 of their Stanley Cup qualifier series against the Montreal Canadiens.
Sullivan explained that Murray’s experience in high-pressure games was the reason why he got the nod over Jarry.
Murray started 38 games for the Penguins this season but had a subpar season posting a 2.87 goals-against average and .889 save percentage. In 33 games, Jarry posted a 2.43 GAA and .921 save percentage in 33 starts this season.
Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford hinted that Murray’s experience helping Pittsburgh to team Cup wins in 2016 and 2017 gave him the inside track fo the job.
