The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenceman Olli Maatta on injured reserve, the club announced Tuesday.

Maatta suffered an upper-body injury during the club’s 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, appearing to injure his left shoulder during the tilt.

The 24-year-old defender has 13 points through 55 games this season for Pittsburgh, averaging 18:32 minutes on the club’s third pairing, most recently alongside Juuso Riikola.

Pittsburgh has Chad Ruhwedel able to slot in for the injured Finn, while top-four defenceman Justin Schultz is nearing a return from the injured reserve as well.
