Pittsburgh Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese had successful surgery on his left shoulder, general manager Jim Rutherford announced Monday.
Aston-Reese is expected to be sidelined for six months which means he will likely miss the start of training camp.
The 26-year-old registered an assist in the Penguins’ qualifying series against the Montreal Canadiens. In 57 games during the regular season, the Staten Island, NY., native scored six goals and had 13 points.
Aston-Reese will be entering the final year of his contract that has a $1 million cap hit.
