Will Leafs’ Phaneuf face more discipline?

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night and they could face the loss of captain Dion Phaneuf.

Phaneuf was handed a five-minute major for boarding and ejected from the game for checking Zack Kassian into the end boards from behind.

The incident came near the end of the second period.

“I didn’t mean to board him,” Phaneuf said. “I went in to finish my check and the puck got caught along the boards. He turned right at the last second.”

Kassian remained in the game but it is questionable whether or not NHL discipline czar Brendan Shanahan will get involved with the incident.
