The Nashville Predators signed free-agent defenceman Anton Volchenkov to a one-year, $1 million contract.
“Anton provides a strong veteran presence that will complement our young, talented defensive corps nicely,” general manager David Poile said in a team release. “He is a physical, left-handed shooting defenseman who can match up with top-line forwards and effectively kill penalties.”
The 32-year-old Volchenkov has 19 goals and 107 assists in 11 NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils. He had eight assists in 56 games with the Devils last season.
Volchenkov was drafted 21st overall by Ottawa in the 2000 NHL draft. He represented Russia at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics.
