The 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs is only one day old, yet NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan may have to hand out his first suspension of the post-season.
In the final seconds of Game 1 between the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings, Predators captain Shea Weber slammed Henrik Zetterberg’s head into the glass. While there was no penalty called on the play, Weber said Zetterberg hit him first from behind and added that the series is a battle with both teams wanting to win and not back down.
Predators coach Barry Trotz backed up his captain and noted Detroit right winger Todd Bertuzzi had a "big-time haymaker" on Gaustad after that.
"I just think Zetterberg was getting tired at the end," Trotz said. "He knew Webs was there and the game was over."
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said he hadn’t seen the replay and was far away on the bench.
The Predators defeated the Red Wings 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead.

Suspect the hit by Weber on Zetterberg will be reviewed, but big #6 won’t miss any time.

Sorry, total garbage play by Shea Weber. Difficult to see how he escapes punishment, & easier now that the Preds won. Pure trash.

Given that league whiffed horribly on Keith cheap shot on D. Sedin, I expect Weber to go unpunished.

The Saints just sent Shea Weber a check for $1,000. #bountyful

I don’t think Shea Weber is allowed to do that unless a turnbuckle is involved. Oh my.

Just in… Weber vs. Lesnar at Wrestlemania 29

Quick GIF of the Shea Weber brutality. Honestly, the more I see it, the longer the suspension becomes. I mean, from 1 to 2 games.
