Rangers’ Jacob Trouba fined $5K for slashing Blues’ Vince Dunn

Robert Bortuzzo scored his first of the season, Jaden Schwartz picked up his 15th and the St. Louis Blues beat the New York Rangers 5-2.

New York Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000 for slashing St. Louis Blues defenceman Vince Dunn, the NHL’s department of player safety announced Sunday.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

The incident occurred at the end of the third period of the Blues’ 5-2 victory over the Rangers on Saturday.

Dunn circled behind the Rangers’ net with Trouba in pursuit. Once around the net, Trouba appeared to repeatedly slash at the Blues defenceman, prompting Dunn to start shoving Trouba.

Both players dropped their gloves as a scrum ensued between the teams with time expired.

Trouba received a five-minute penalty for slashing and a 10-minute game misconduct. Dunn received a two-minute minor penalty for roughing.

Trouba has posted six goals and 21 points in 44 games this season.
