Rangers’ Kreider suffers upper-body injury after taking knee to head

New York Rangers' Chris Kreider heads to the locker room after being caught in the side of the head with a knee from teammate Mika Zibanejad, who was trying to avoid the collision in the corner.

New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings with an upper-body injury.

Rangers head coach David Quinn told reporters after the game that Kreider is considered day-to-day but is optimistic that the injury won’t keep him out long term.

The injury occurred early in the second period after teammate Mika Zibanejad accidentally kneed him in the while trying to skate around him. Kreider was slow to get up and went straight to the Rangers’ dressing room.

Kreider is considered one of the top targets ahead of the 2020 NHL trade deadline.

The 28-year-old has 18 goals and 35 points in 50 games this season.
