Rangers’ Lindgren hurt after fight with Avalanche’s Kadri over hard hit

Ryan Lindgren leaves Joonas Donskoi shaken up after a thunderous hit and then drops the gloves with Nazem Kadri.

The New York Rangers have lost defenceman Ryan Lindgren for the rest of their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday following a frenzied sequence of events.

Lindgren left the game after a bloody fight with Nazem Kadri and will not return due to an upper-body injury.

Lindgren landed a vicious hit on Avalanche forward Joonas Donskoi at mid-ice with around 3:40 left to play in the first period. Kadri took exception and immediately dropped his gloves, hitting Lindgren with successive punches.

The Rangers defenceman left the ice with blood and bruises on the right side of his face following the fight.

Donskoi needed medical attention after the hit from Lindgren, but the Avalanche haven’t provided an update on his status.

The 21-year-old Lindgren has recorded one goal and eight points over 31 games with the Rangers this season.
