The Detroit Red Wings have acquired goaltender Eric Comrie from the Arizona Coyotes for defence prospect Vili Saarijarvi.

Comrie, who was claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets at the end of September, has yet to appear in an NHL game this season. The 24-year-old has a 4-0-0 record in the AHL this season, with a 2.75 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.

In five NHL games over his career, all with the Jets, Comrie has a 2-3-0 record with a 4.20 goals-against average and .870 save percentage.

The Red Wings placed veteran goalie Jimmy Howard on injured reserve Friday after he suffered a mid-body injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

Saarijarvi, 22, was a third-round pick by the Red Wings in 2015. He has yet to play an NHL game and has one assist in 13 AHL games this season.
