Detroit Red Wings starter Jonathan Bernier left Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury and is questionable to return, the team announced.

Bernier suffered the injury early in the first period and left the game during a commercial break. He was replaced by Calvin Pickard.

The 31-year-old Bernier has a 7-10-2 record this season with a 3.26 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

The Red Wings are currently without goaltender Jimmy Howard, who is in the AHL on a conditioning stint following a groin injury. However, Howard could be ready to start for the Wings Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes, something that seems more likely now that Bernier is hurt.

Detroit’s goaltending depth was further tested earlier this week when Eric Comrie was claimed off waivers by the Winnipeg Jets, only weeks after the Red Wings acquired him in a trade from the Coyotes.
