The Detroit Red Wings recalled goaltender Jimmy Howard from the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

Howard was with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins on a conditioning stint and shut out the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday night by stopping 21 shots in a 2-0 victory. It’s Howard’s second conditioning stint this season, going 3-1 with a 2.11 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in four games.

The 32-year-old hurt his knee against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 20. Howard is 5-7-1 in 17 appearances with the Red Wings this year with a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage.

Detroit is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night and are currently last in the NHL’s Eastern Conference — 12 points out of a playoff spot.
