The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Jimmy Howard to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday.

The deal is worth $4 million, according to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, plus playoff bonuses.

Howard’s current six-year, $31.75-million contract expires at the end of this season.

The Red Wings’ primary starter since 2009-10, the two-time all-star has split time with Jonathan Bernier this season and is expected to do so again in 2019-20. In 46 starts this season, Howard has a 19-20-5 record with a 3.07 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
