Red Wings sign top pick Filip Zadina to entry-level contract

The Halifax Mooseheads have a history of grooming European players into top draft picks for the NHL, and is why one of top ranked draft prospects, Filip Zadina left the Czech Republic for Nova Scotia.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed 2018 first-round pick Filip Zadina to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Saturday.

The 18-year-old was selected with the sixth-overall pick in last month’s draft after scoring 44 goals and 82 points in 57 regular-season games with the Halifax Mooseheads this past season, his first campaign in the QMJHL.

Zadina played for his native Czech Republic in the 2018 world juniors, leading the team with six goals in six games. The Czech Republic finished fourth.
