The Detroit Red Wings have signed right winger Evgeny Svechnikov to a one-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Svechnikov was scheduled to become a restricted free agent after the season.
Svechnikov, 23, was the Red Wings’ first-round pick in 2015. He missed the entire 2018-19 season with a knee injury but returned to the ice this year, scoring 25 points in 51 AHL games with the Grand Rapid Griffins. In addition to that, he appeared in four games with the Red Wings this season.
He is the older brother of Carolina Hurricanes star Andrei Svechnikov.
