The father of New Jersey Devils forward Ryane Clowe, Anthony, were among a handful charged with money laundering and possessing property obtained by crime following a police investigation into “high level: cocaine trafficking in Newfoundland and Labrador, according to a report from the CBC.
Kurt Churchill of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s and Leroy Thomas of St. John’s were also charged. And in April, as part of the same investigation, another half-dozen people were charged for their roles.
Clowe’s case was called at Newfoundland and Labrador provincial court in St. John’s on Wednesday morning stemming from a police investigation that began in March looking into cocaine trafficking in the St. John’s area.
Along with assistance from Montreal and Vancouver police, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-Newfoundland & Labrador seized nearly $350,000 in cash, cocaine, a loaded handgun, ammunition, brass knuckles, and a stun gun after executing search warrants at St. John’s International Airport, Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport in Montreal and residences and vehicles in St. John’s.
The Devils forward is not a suspect.
