Hurricanes acquire Haula from Golden Knights for Roy, conditional pick

Erik Haula scored in double overtime and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Los Angeles Kings in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead.

The Vegas Golden Knights have traded forward Erik Haula to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Nicolas Roy and a conditional fifth-round pick, the clubs have announced.

A potential Golden Knights trade has been widely expected given that the club is currently sitting above the $81.5-million salary cap ceiling after signing forward William Karlsson to an eight-year deal paying him $5.9 million per season.

Haula has one more year left on the three-year deal he signed with Vegas in 2017, which pays him $2.75 million in 2019-20. The 28-year-old appeared in just 15 games last season, posting seven points for the Golden Knights in that span.

Winger Nicolas Roy appeared in six games for the Hurricanes last season, along with 69 games for their AHL affiliate in Charlotte. The 22-year-old had 36 points at the AHL level in 2018-19.
