Report: Mantha likely out for season with fractured finger

Watch as Luke Witkowski sends a message to Anthony Mantha during fight.

Detroit Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha fractured a finger in a fight Thursday and is likely out for the rest of the NHL season, according to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.

The injury happened when Mantha scrapped with Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Luke Witkowski early in the first period.

James noted the fight was retribution for an incident that occurred last week. Mantha punched Lightning winger Greg McKegg several times after McKegg dropped to the ice during their fight.

Mantha, 22, has 17 goals and 36 points in 60 games in with the Red Wings this season.

The Wings announced earlier on Thursday that centre Luke Glendening has been shut down for the remainder of the season because of a fractured foot and ankle.
