Report: Horton’s back injury could end career

Nathan Horton's future remains in doubt.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are concerned that Nathan Horton’s career could be in jeopardy, according to a report from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

The Blue Jackets forward was reportedly diagnosed with “degeneration” of the lumbar region of his spine and isn’t expected to play again this season.

Aaron Portzline on Twitter: “Have to feel for Horton, who is one of the more amiable fellows you could meet off the ice. Only 29 years old, degenerative back condition.”

“He’s in constant pain,” Horton’s agent Paul Krepelka told The Dispatch. “He’s in constant discomfort.”

The team has not scheduled surgery, which is said to be a last resort.

Horton was placed on the non-reserve injury list on Oct. 5 and has not played in a game his season.

After signing with the Blue Jackets as a free agent — a seven-year deal worth $37.1 million – before the 2013-14 season, Horton suited up in only 35 games last year due to off-season shoulder surgery.
