The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Alex Petrovic from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenceman Chris Wideman and a third-round draft pick in 2019.

Petrovic, an Edmonton native, has one assist in 26 games this season.

The 26-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. He’s earning $1.95 million this season.

Wideman has two assists in five games with the Oilers and two goals and five points in 19 games with the Ottawa Senators.

He was traded to Edmonton for a conditional 2020 sixth-round draft pick on Nov. 22.

The 28-year-old is earning $1 million this season, after which he’ll also become an unrestricted free agent.

CapFriendly is reporting that the pick will be the higher of the two third-rounders Edmonton currently owns (theirs, and that of the New York Islanders).
