Valeri Nichushkin‘s second stint with the Dallas Stars appears to have come to an end.
The club is placing the 24-year-old on waivers with the intent to buy out the final year remaining on his two-year, $5.9-million contract, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday.
The former 10th overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft had 10 assists in 57 games with the Stars last season, his first since returning from a two-year run with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow.
Nichushkin impressed in his first season in the NHL, collecting 34 points across 79 games with Dallas in 2013-14. But he was limited to just eight games following hip surgery during the 2014-15 campaign. He produced 29 points in 79 games with the Stars in 2015-16, before leaving for Russia in the off-season.
