Reports: Sabres to sign BU’s Evan Rodrigues

The Buffalo Sabres may have lost the lottery and lost out on Connor McDavid, but Jack Eichel is also a franchise changer and not a bad consolation prize.

The Buffalo Sabres could have a hint of Boston University next season.

According to multiple reports Tuesday night, the Sabres are going to sign Boston University forward Evan Rodrigues.

Rodrigues was a linemate of Jack Eichel’s with the Terriers, scoring 21 goals and 40 assists in 41 games this season. He ranked second in the nation in points.

A native of Etobicoke, Ont., Rodrigues helped lead Boston to the NCAA’s Frozen Four final before losing to Providence in the championship game.

Eichel, who finished first in NCAA scoring, is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft and the American forward is projected to go second overall to Buffalo.

The Sabres had the best odds of winning the NHL draft lottery this past Saturday, but were beaten out by the Edmonton Oilers.
