We all know Connor McDavid is one of, if not the best hockey player in the world.

And we all know McDavid is really fast — actually, he’s the fastest player in the world, which was confirmed after he won the fastest skater competition at the NHL Skills Competition last season with a time of 13.02.

What you may not know is that his skates aren’t the right size.

McDavid didn’t even know that fact.

According to NHL.com, McDavid, brother Cam, and a friend went to skate on Boston Common’s Frog Pond last Saturday when the Oilers were in town for a Sunday matchup against the Bruins. The three were trying to rent skates at the rink, when an employee let McDavid know that he was asking for the wrong skate size.

“The lady was trying to give me some advice on what size I should go with,” McDavid said to NHL.com. “I went with it. I wasn’t going to argue with her.”

McDavid has 11 points in his past nine games (including two assists against the Bruins) but, to some, isn’t living up to expectations this season. Before you go thinking that a new skate size will give him a boost, McDavid said afterwards that the fit recommended to him, surprisingly, wasn’t right.

“The skates were a little big, but they did the trick,” he said.
