Ron and Don: Dubas will be next GM of Maple Leafs

Ron and Don break down the Jets vs. Predators with Patrik Laine not bringing his A-game, and talk about the Maple Leafs moving on from Lou Lamoriello.

Don Cherry is confident about who the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be.

The coveted position will go to 32-year-old assistant GM Kyle Dubas, per Cherry.

“Absolutely he’s going to be the guy,” Cherry said Tuesday during his Coach’s Corner segment.

Leafs president Brendan Shanahan moved Lou Lamoriello from GM to a senior adviser role on Monday, but did not name a replacement.

“Shanahan already knows who the GM is,” says Cherry, adding that the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

Dubas has been seemingly groomed for the role since joining the Leafs in 2014. He previously worked as GM of the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Fellow assistant GM Mark Hunter, 55, has also been mentioned as a possible replacement for Lamoriello.
