The Buffalo Sabres acquired goaltender Anders Nilsson in a trade with the St. Louis Blues Saturday, the team announced. The Sabres sent a fifth round pick (2017) to the Blues.

Nilsson played 29 games in the NHL last season between the Blues and Edmonton Oilers. He posted a 10-13-3 record with a 3.12 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.

The Blues’ signing of backup goaltender Carter Hutton Friday likely made Nilsson expendable. The Swedish goalie was a third round pick of the New York Islanders in 2009.

Nilsson signed with the Sabres later in the day.

The Sabres have goalie Robin Lehner on their roster for one more season before he becomes an RFA. Linus Ullmark is also in Buffalo’s system for one more season before he becomes an RFA himself.
