The Buffalo Sabres have hired Ralph Krueger to be their next head coach, Sportsnet can confirm.
Sources tell Sportsnet that Krueger will likely sign a three-year deal to coach the club.
Krueger, 59, formerly coached the Edmonton Oilers during the 2012-13 NHL season. He also served as head coach for Team Europe during the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Krueger served as chairman of Southhampton soccer club since 2014, but was due to become a free agent on Wednesday when his contract expired.
The Sabres fired Phil Housley in April after the team missed the playoffs in both of his seasons behind the bench.
