Sabres sign goaltender Linus Ullmark to two-year extension

New Buffalo Sabres GM Jason Botterill discusses his time in Pittsburgh, his excitement and readiness for his new gig, and what type of coach he’ll look for in his important first hire.

The Buffalo Sabres have signed Linus Ullmark to a two-year extension with an average annual value of $750,000, the team announced Tuesday.

The 23-year-old appeared in just one game for the Sabres during the 2016-17 season, but was between the pipes for 55 contests for the Rochester Americans of the AHL, posting a 26-27-2 record with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He also led the league in saves (1,525) and minutes played (3,201:55). The Sweden native was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

"Linus has worked hard both on and off the ice, and his performance at both the NHL and AHL levels has reflected those efforts," Sabres general manager Jason Botterill said in a team statement. "He made great strides during his second season in North America and we are eager to see him continue his development."

Drafted in the sixth round (163rd overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, the six-foot-six Ullmark has played in 21 career NHL games with an 8-11-2 record with a .913 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average.
