Free agent forward Scott Gomez will travel to California to meet with the San Jose Sharks to discuss possibly signing with the team, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos has learned.

Gomez could also meet with the Anaheim Ducks while he’s on the west coast.

Earlier this week the Montreal Canadiens bought out Gomez’ contract — which had a salary cap hit of $7.3 million through the 2013-14 season — and Gomez became a free agent after he cleared waivers.
It was reported that several teams, including the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders expressed interest in acquiring Gomez, but Gomez will instead reportedly elect to play in the Western Conference.
Sounds like #Devils out on Gomez as well. His list narrows down to team(s) only in West conf. Best bet on #Sharks. No decis’ expected tonite

Gomez underachieved in Montreal and last season with the Canadiens he registered just 11 points in 38 games.
