A smack of exciting news has arrived for fans of 2012’s punchy hockey comedy Goon.
The star enforcer of the original flick, Seann William Scott, who plays Doug “The Thug” Glatt, reveled during a Reddit chat that a sequel will begin shooting this June.
Seann William Scott on Reddit:
“Heh! Well, I did a bit of fight training for GOON. For GOON 2, I’ve been fight-training for the past month, and next month in May I start working with an MMA fighter, and then some skating (obviously, a lot of skating). We start shooting GOON 2 in mid-June, and if everybody does their jobs and we execute the amazing script that Jay [Baruchel] and his co-writer wrote, the f*cking movie would be wicked.”
Canadian actor-writer-producer Jay Baruchel (and massive Habs fan) told Global News earlier this month that Goon 2 has been given the green light “after a very long time, a lot of hard work and blood, sweat and tears.”
Global reports that the film will be filmed in Ontario, but that has not been confirmed.
The original Goon was shot in Manitoba and grossed $6.5 million at the box office, earning an impressive 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
No release date for the film has been announced.
