Senators’ Marcus Hogberg to make NHL debut vs. Capitals

Mathew Barzal scored twice and added an assist as the New York Islanders beat the Ottawa Senators 6-3 in a spirited affair.

Ottawa Senators goaltender Marcus Hogberg will make his NHL debut against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Hogberg was called up to Ottawa on Thursday, and backed up Mike McKenna in Friday’s loss to the New York Islanders.

The 24-year-old will get the nod on Saturday against the Washington Capitals.

The Senators drafted Hogberg with a third-round pick in 2013, and the Orebro, Sweden, native has spent last season in the AHL and ECHL affiliates.

He has a .916 save percentage and 2.32 goals-against average in eight games with AHL Belleville this season.

The Senators have also announced that defenceman Thomas Chabot will miss the next three weeks with an upper-body injury, while rearguard Christian Jaros will be out four weeks with a broken finger. Forward Magnus Paajarvi will also miss Saturday’s contest with an upper-body injury.

Defencemen Stefan Elliott and Christian Wolanin, along with forward Jack Rodewald, were recalled from Belleville.
