The Ottawa Senators have placed goaltender Craig Anderson on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.

Anderson was absent from practice the past couple of days for precautionary reasons and was not on the bench for Wednesday’s game against the Boston Bruins, with the team recalling Marcus Hogberg to backup Anders Nilsson.

It is unclear when the 38-year-old suffered the injury and how many games he is expected to miss. In 12 games this season, Anderson has a 4-8 record with a 2.96 GAA and a .904 save percentage.

Head coach D.J. Smith confirmed that Nilsson will start against the Minnesota Wild and Hogberg will likely play in the second half of the back-to-back against the Calgary Flames.
