Senators send forward Drake Batherson back to AHL Belleville

Ottawa's rookie rips a wrist shot past Jimmy Howard to give the Senators a 2-1 lead and gets his first NHL goal on his first NHL shot in his first NHL game. Batherson's entire family cheers him on from the stands.

The Ottawa Senators have sent forward Drake Batherson back to AHL Belleville ahead of Wednesday’s holiday roster freeze.

The roster freeze, which runs from midnight local time on Dec. 19 to midnight local time on Dec. 27, prevents teams from trading, waiving or loaning players on their active roster.

Batherson, 20, made his NHL debut for the Senators on Nov. 15 and has three goals and eight points in 17 games this season. A fourth-round pick by the Senators in 2017, Batherson also has seven goals and 20 points in 14 AHL games this season.
