The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Lassi Thomson to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Monday.
Thomson, 18, was selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, 19th overall. The defenceman attended the Senators’ development camp last month.
“Lassi has great offensive instincts and an NHL-calibre shot,” GM Pierre Dorion said via a team release. “He also brings a high compete level — he’s always moving his feet and driving the pace of play. We came away from development camp in Ottawa very impressed and feel that he is going to be an important piece of our team’s future.”
Last season, Thomson recorded 17 goals and 41 points in 63 games with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets. Those totals led all WHL rookie defencemen, while Thomson’s goals total tied for third in the league among blueliners.
