The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenceman Nicolas Meloche from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goaltender Antoine Bibeau.

“Nicolas is a strong right shot defenseman who helps complete our left and right balance on the blueline,” Sharks assistant general manager Joe Will said in a team statement. “His game is a blend of offense and defense and we feel that his assets will complement our young defensive prospects.”

The 22-year-old Meloche played in 55 games for the AHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2018-19, recording six goals and 21 points.

Bibeau, 25, spent last season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, going 16-13-5 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against average.
