Sharks’ Vlasic fined for slash on Wild’s Heatley

San Jose Sharks defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic was fined for slashing Dany Heatley.

The National Hockey League fined San Jose Sharks defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic for slashing Minnesota Wild forward Dany Heatley, the league’s department of player safety announced.

The slash occurred as the third period expired in the Sharks’ 4-2 win over the Wild Wednesday.

Heatley slashed Vlasic as the two jostled in front of the Sharks net, but Vlasic’s retaliatory slash was more violent. Vlasic was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for slashing.

Heatley suffered an injury on the play but a review of the incident that included a conversation with the Wild confirmed the injury was not as a result of Vlasic’s slash.

The fine will cost Vlasic $8,378.38, which is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. The money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
