Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Skinner suffered a concussion on Dec. 7 after Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andy Sutton laid an open-ice hit on him.
Sutton did not face discipline for the hit, though he was later suspended for a hit in the same game on forward Alexei Ponikarovsky.
Skinner, last year’s Calder Trophy winner, has 12 goals and 12 assists in 30 games this season and remains the Hurricanes’ leading scorer.
Skinner’s concussion, along with forward Tim Brent being placed on IR after being injured in Tuesday’s practice, forced the ‘Canes to recall Riley Nash from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.
Nash has two goals and seven assists in 31 games for the Checkers this season.
