The brand-spankin’-new Dallas Stars logo has apparently leaked like a grande Starbucks americano whose lid you failed to fasten tight enough.
Stars fans stumbled upon what appears to be their team’s new logo Thursday night, almost two weeks ahead of schedule, as a fresh design could be spotted on the Dallas Stars’ smartphone app under “wallpapers.” A grand to-do is planned for the official unveiling of the club’s new look on June 4.
The rebranding coincides with the Stars’ leadership overhaul, which began with a new owner in Tom Gaglardi, who bought the franchise in late 2011; a new general manager in Jim Nill, appointed in April; and a yet-to-be-named new head coach.
“Since Tom Gaglardi took over as owner, we have been working diligently on a rebrand that is classic, simple and true-to-hockey,” Stars president and CEO Jim Lites said via press release. “This event will showcase the results of that process to our loyal fans and will also provide us with an opportunity to announce several new developments about the future of our franchise.”
According to defendingbigd.com, the sheriff-badge-esque “DALLAS STARS” circular logo (immediately below) is set to be a shoulder patch on the players’ sweaters, while the large, star-spiked “D” logo is set to be the main crest. Dallas seems to be ditching the gold trim and shifting to a Celtics-style kelly green for its colour scheme.
Since what appears to be the team’s unintentional leak — which, hopefully, will not affect first-week record sales — the images have been removed from the Stars’ mobile app.
