Edmonton depends on Spider-Mable to rescue Andrew Ference

Edmonton Oilers captain Andrew Ference comments after being saved by Spider-Mable.

Andrew Ference is missing. But fear not!

His daughters know exactly who to call on in their time of need.

“Help us find our dad, Spider-Mable!” the wee Ference girls plead. “You’re the only one who can do it!”

The Oilers captain is trapped at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, and must be rescued Monday by the fearless Spider-Mable.

With assistance from the Children’s Wish Foundation, the Edmonton Police Service and, of course, Spider-Man himself, six-year-old Spidey fan Mable will fight crime in the city Monday — a mission that will climax with the safe return of the Oilers defenceman.

The public has been encouraged to cheer on the brave heroine throughout her quest.

Mable was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013. She devoured 1960s-era Spider-Man comics while undergoing cancer treatments.

“She started to find a short walk to school to be too much for her,” her mom, Lisa, told the Edmonton Sun. “She had a total lack of energy and didn’t want to do anything.”

On Monday, Mable will do everything.

Looks like San Francisco’s Bat Kid isn’t the only undersized superhero fit to save a metropolis.
