• New deal bolsters current agreement
• Sportsnet to deliver all games live on Radio, TV, and mobile
VANCOUVER–Sportsnet and the Vancouver Canucks are building on their 20-year relationship with a new, five-year agreement that will see Sportsnet deliver all Canucks games on Rogers radio beginning with the 2017/18 NHL season.
This new deal augments their current 10-year multimedia relationship that includes Canucks coverage on Sportsnet TV, mobile and online. Beginning next season, Sportsnet will have all 82 Canucks games available live on TV, Radio, Sportsnet NOW, and Rogers NHL GameCentre LIVE.
“The Canucks are the most sought-after content in the Vancouver market, and we are excited to expand our Sportsnet offering to deliver live Canucks coverage on all platforms,” said Scott Moore, president of Sportsnet, Rogers Media. “Vancouver is a top Canadian market filled with loyal and knowledgeable sports fans, and is a natural fit to expand our Sportsnet offering.”
The relationship between Sportsnet and the Canucks is long established. Sportsnet has been committed to the Vancouver sports community since the network’s inception in 1998 when Sportsnet began televising Canucks games.
“Sportsnet has an amazing success story of building relationships with fans and this new partnership will bring listeners in the Lower Mainland and across B.C. closer than ever to the Canucks,” said Jeff Stipec, chief operating officer, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “We are grateful to have an exceptional relationship with Sportsnet and this is a perfect step to strengthen our connection to our fans as we continue to develop an exciting team, both on and off the ice.”
With this deal, Rogers and Sportsnet continue to invest in premium content to connect Canadians to their passion for sports.
“We have incredibly strong radio brands in the Vancouver market, and we are excited to build on our premium content with the acquisition of the Canucks games,” said Julie Adam, senior vice president of Radio, Rogers Media. “As we’ve seen with our Sportsnet radio stations in Calgary and Toronto, there is a strong appetite for live game coverage and top-tier sports content.”
Details about the Vancouver Canucks radio broadcasts will be announced at a later date.
