The St. Louis Blues have added Keith Tkachuk to its amateur scouting staff, according to Blues beat reporter Andy Strickland.

Tkachuk has a son, Matthew, who was born in 1997 and plays with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. According to Strickland, Tkachuk knows players from that birth year very well. Although Matthew isn’t draft eligible until 2016, many players born in 1997 will be selected next summer at the 2015 NHL Draft, including blue-chip prospects Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel.

Tkachuk isn’t the only former player the Blues have recently added to the coaching staff. Kirk Muller and Jim Corsi were hired in May as an assistant coach and goaltending coach, respectively.

The 42-year-old Tkachuk retired in 2010. He played the better part of nine seasons with the Blues during his 18-year NHL career. In 543 career games with the Blues, Tkachuk tallied 208 goals, 427 points and 677 penalty minutes. He also spent time with the Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix Coyotes and very briefly with the Atlanta Thrashers.
