Another piece of the St. Louis Blues‘ 2018-19 Stanley Cup title run was made official Monday, as the team reveal its championship rings.
The frustration. The comeback.
The inspiration. The song.
The Cup. And now… the ring. https://t.co/ykYmAtOog0 #stlblues pic.twitter.com/cLHGjMPRd1— St. Louis Blues (@StLouisBlues) October 1, 2019
Made of 14-karat white and yellow gold, the rings are filled with subtle designs that uniquely detail the Blues’ journey: 16 blue sapphires form the blue note logo, signifying the number of post-season wins required to win the Stanley Cup; 75 diamonds form the Stanley Cup and its background, signifying the number of goals St. Louis scored in the playoffs; and an engraving that reads “PLAY GLORIA” on the bottom as a nod to the team’s adopted theme song.
The Blues will sell a replica version of the ring that comes personalized and individually numbered. There will be 139 “fan rings” for sale, which represents the combination of the jersey numbers of the Blues’ goal scorers in Game 7 against the Boston Bruins.
“The Blues journey to become Stanley Cup Champions for the first time was nothing short of extraordinary, and we wanted to honour that story through an equally incredible ring,” said Chris Poitras, VP and COO of the company that designed the ring, Jostens Professional Sports Division, in a statement. “This ring celebrates not only the Blues but also the city of St. Louis and the dedicated fans that have supported them. We strived to capture that relationship in design of the ring; using diamonds and genuine sapphires, the story of the Blues and St. Louis comes to life through the ring’s unique details and intricate storytelling.”
