Flames’ Stajan has separated shoulder

Calgary Flames centre Matt Stajan is out indefinitely after separating his shoulder on the opening night of the pre-season, the team has announced.

Calgary is already without fellow centre Daymond Langkow, who is out with a neck injury.

The Flames will now likely open the season Oct. 7 in Edmonton against the host Oilers without their second- and third-line centres.

The Flames don’t play again until Saturday when the Tampa Bay Lightning are in town.

“Now, we’ll see who’s going to scratch and claw to see who’s going to be on our team come first day of regular season . . . who can fill another hole if Stajan and Daymond aren’t ready at that point in time,” Flames coach Brent Sutter told reporters.
