The Dallas Stars will retire defenceman Sergei Zubov’s No. 56 in the 2020-21 season.

Zubov will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Nov. 18.

“I’m touched and it’s been an honour to play for this franchise for such a long time,” Zubov said Monday in a video posted on the Stars’ Twitter account after being told his number was being retired.

Zubov played the final 12 seasons of his 16-year NHL career in Dallas, and is the franchise leader in every major category among defencemen. A three-time all-star, Zubov also helped the Stars win their only Stanley Cup in 1999.

Once Zubov’s number is retired, it will join Neal Broten (No. 7), Bill Goldsworthy (No. 8), Mike Modano (No. 9), Bill Masterton (No. 19) and Jere Lehtinen (No. 26) in the rafters of American Airlines Arena.
