According the Montreal Gazette, Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban and rapper Snoop Dogg will partake in a charity basketball game as part of the festivities surrounding the upcoming Formula One Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
Snoop Dogg has long been an avid hockey fan, wearing NHL apparel and attending games with his son.
The organizer of this event, Jacques Leonard, spoke with the famous entertainer at the 2016 NBA All-Star Game in Toronto, where the idea was born.
“Snoop suggested a charity basketball game and said I should get Subban involved,” said Leonard. “I told him it was a great idea, even though I didn’t know Subban back then.”
This led to a meeting between the two stars in March, while the Canadiens were on a California road trip. The pair hit it off, and the concept of a charity basketball game took flight.
“Subban got really excited, particularly because he was already a big Snoop fan,” said Leonard. “It will be a fun and funny event, but it will also be good basketball.”
There will be 22 other names chosen from various entertainment mediums to participate, and the game will take place in the 4,000-seat Verdun Auditorium.
Proceeds from the game will be shared by Subban’s Montreal Children’s Hospital foundation and Snoop Dogg’s Youth Football League foundation.
The game is scheduled for June 11, one day before the Canadian Grand Prix.
