The Tampa Bay Lightning traded goalie Evgeni Nabokov to the San Jose Sharks Monday in exchange for future considerations. Nabokov is slated to make an announcement Wednesday regarding the future of his hockey career, according to the Sharks. It’s believed he will announce his retirement.
Nabokov went 3-6-2 with a .882 save percentage and a 2.44 goals-against average in 11 games with the Lightning this season after spending the last three seasons with the New York Islanders.

The 39-year-old was drafted 129th overall by the Sharks in 1994 and spent the first 563 games of his 697-game NHL career in San Jose, winning the Calder Trophy in 2001 as the NHL’s top rookie. He went 353-227-29-71 with a 2.44 GAA, .911 save percentage and 59 shutouts.
Nabokov hadn’t played since Jan. 12 and Andrei Vasilevskiy had been backing up Ben Bishop for the Lightning in recent games.
