The night belonged to the Academy Awards, but the day belonged to hockey. Here are three things we learned in the NHL on Sunday, which also happened to be Hockey Day in America.

Ryan Miller suffers injury

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller left Sunday’s game versus the New York Islanders with an apparent lower-body injury when he collided awkwardly with teammate Jannik Hansen.

(If you’re a Canucks fan, maybe look away for this one.)

Eddie Lack stepped in as the Canucks shut out the Islanders 4-0, earning a key victory as the tight Western Conference playoff race continues.

There’s no word just yet on the extent of Miller’s injury, but Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins did say that the netminder likely won’t play during Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins.

Krejci may be gone longer than we thought

Speaking of Boston, on Friday we learned that Bruins forward David Krejci suffered a knee injury during the Bruins’ 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Today, we learned that his injury might be more serious than initially thought:

Nathan MacKinnon meets a milestone

Nathan MacKinnon didn’t just break his month-long scoring drought on Sunday.

He REALLY broke it.

MacKinnon earned his first career NHL hat trick to power the Colorado Avalanche over the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4.
