Tomas Hertl expected to miss weeks with lower-body injury

Tomas Hertl had two goals and Joonas Donskoi also scored to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

The San Jose Sharks will be without injured Tomas Hertl for at least a couple of weeks, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.

Hertl appeared to hurt his right leg in a collision with St. Louis Blues forward Jori Lehtera during the second period of the Sharks 3-2 loss against the Blues on Thursday.

Hertl traveled back to San Jose for further testing prior to the Sharks finishing up a six-game road trip against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night. It is not yet known if he will need surgery or not.

This is not the first time that Hertl has been plagued by a right knee injury.

In 2013, he missed four months of play after having surgery to repair MCL and PCL ligaments in said knee, and he left the Stanley Cup series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in last year’s playoffs with a right knee injury. It also kept him out of the World Cup of Hockey this past September.

His nine points this season (four goals, five assists) have him fifth in scoring on the team.

The Sharks (9-8-0) are in fourth place of the Pacific Division.
