From selfies to stunt driving, to Halloween costumes and questionable photoshop jobs, here are the Top 10 Instagram posts by NHLers in 2015.
1. Break the Internet 2.0
Tyler Seguin sees your shirtless selfie and raises you driving a zamboni, naked.
The internet lost its mind when he shared this snap from his photoshoot for ESPN Magazine‘s Body Issue.
2. P.K. Subban: The next Don Cherry?
Montreal Canadiens star P.K. Subban had our entire studio cracking up when he broke out his best Don Cherry impression while on set.
3. You’ve got mail
A fan left his personal phone number in Alexander Ovechkin’s Instagram comments with one simple instruction: Call.
So, Ovi being Ovi, he called and left a voicemail.
They say a watched phone never rings, but I imagine this fan is still kicking himself for missing that call.
4. Erik Karlsson rocks tentacles
It’s official. We can all give up on our dream of having the best Halloween costume because there’s no topping Ottawa Senators captain Erik Karlsson dressed as Ursula the sea witch.
5. Max Domi’s humblebrag
Max Domi was very excited for his first NHL game in Winnipeg.
So excited, in fact, that he just had to share this photo of his one-month-old self sleeping in the arms of former Winnipeg Jet, Teemu Selanne.
No big deal.
Speaking of Teemu Selanne…
6. Teemu Selanne: Stunt driver?
After 21 seasons in the NHL, Teemu Selanne decided to try his hand at another sport: stunt driving.
No, seriously. Behind the wheel of that car flying through explosions is an NHL legend.
Caption: Bond?! No…just flying Finn 008…
7. Evander Kane is good at hockey
Evander Kane gave Buffalo Sabres fans a sneak peek of what was to come this season when he posted a video of this slick move on his account.
8. Did Ryan Johansen jinx himself?
Ryan Johansen posted this photo after he had a Columbus Blue Jackets-themed sports court installed in his backyard.
He then tweeted another photo of the court with the caption: “Can’t trade me now #probthough”
Given the trade talk surrounding his name lately, #probthough may have been on to something.
9. Brian Elliott’s selfie > your selfie
Move over, Ellen DeGeneres. St. Louis Blues goaltender Brian Elliott took the selfie to end all selfies during this year’s NHL All-Star Game Breakaway Challenge.
The result was pretty incredible.
10. Evgeni Malkin unveils new website theme
Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin recently unveiled the new look of his personal website. The background features only a photo of him playing hockey photoshopped in front of an angry bear.
We’re not exactly sure the meaning behind it, but it seems to stick with his theme of animal photos. (See here, here, here, and, most recently, here.)
Honourable Mentions:
The new Bennifer:
Professional goaltender and proud hockey husband Ben Scrivens shared this photo of his wife, Jen Scrivens, making her national television debut between the pipes for the New York Riveters. #RelationshipGoals
Caption: National TV debut. Kiiiiiiiind of a big deal.
That’s what friends are for
Arizona Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith spent Halloween just trying to get his teammate Oliver Ekman-Larsson a date. We’re swiping right on this costume idea.
Aaron Ekblad’s mini-me
Last season’s rookie of the year is already inspiring the next generation of NHL stars.
Sean Monahan lives up to his nickname
43K followers and zero posts? Classic Boring Sean Monahan.
