Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov has been involved in contract talks with his former pro club, Moscow Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League.
A restricted free agent who was signed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Leafs for $1.2 million in 2012-13, Komarov told various Russian reporters that he had commenced talks with his former KHL team, the Gagarin Cup-champion Dynamo.
But Komarov, who left Moscow after 13 games in 2012-13 to make his NHL debut with Toronto, said he is waiting to hear from the Leafs regarding a new deal as well.
The Estonian-born, Finnish-raised 26-year-old was drafted by the Leafs in 2006 but played professionally in Russia and Finland prior to this season.
In 42 contests for Toronto, Komarov scored nine points and averaged nearly 14 minutes of ice time per game. His 176 hits led all Maple Leafs and ranked him fifth in the NHL in that category.
Komarov saw his minutes diminish in the Leafs’ postseason. The depth player failed to register a point during Toronto’s seven-game series against the Boston Bruins but did earn 17 penalty minutes.
