The Jhonas Enroth era in Toronto might not be over quite yet.
The Maple Leafs reached back and recalled the No. 2 goaltender Friday, sending prospect Antoine Bibeau back to the AHL Marlies after just one start.
Bibeau played well in his NHL debut (.929 save percentage) but lost 3-1 to the Colorado Avalanche Sunday. He has a 6-5-2 record and a .907 save percentage with three shutouts in 13 games with the Marlies this season.
Enroth was waived less than two weeks ago after a dismal start to the season, registering an .872 save percentage in six appearances and losing all four of his starts — each one arriving on the second half of a back-to-back.
“Obviously, it was not going good enough and we’re just in a situation we’re making a change,” head coach Mike Babcock said when the club waived Enroth.
Enroth fared a little better in his one AHL start, a 5-3 victory in which his save percentage was .889.
The transaction might be purely to give Bibeau some work versus Albany this weekend.
Lurking in the wings is Karri Ramo, currently on a tryout with the Marlies. In three opportunities, Ramo has yet to record a victory and has a save percentage of just .880.
The Maple Leafs are not expected to give any Frederik Andersen backup a start until their next back-to-back, which goes Dec. 22 and 23 in Colorado and Arizona.
They host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
